How can CBD help treat acne?

How CBD affects Acne

Acne is characterized by four major pathogenic processes including excess sebum production, inflammation, hyperkeratinization and overgrowth of acne organisms.

Many scientists have investigated the applicability of using natural products possessing anti-acne properties in various reports in order to overcome the limitations of conventional anti-acne treatment. In a recent study conducted in 2014 on humans, the authors reported that CBD acts as a highly effective sebostatic agent.  Authors administered CBD to the cultured human sebocytes to investigate its anti-acne properties. CBD resulted in inhibition of the process of lipogenesis of various compounds related to acne pathogenesis (sebum formation), while also suppressing the proliferation of sebocytes. CBD when taken orally has helped in keeping the oil-producing glands under control. Moreover, CBD exerted certain anti-inflammatory properties which prevent worsening of acne. Overall, Cannabidiol has been considered as a promising therapeutic agent for the treatment of acne due to its lipostatic, anti-proliferative, and anti-inflammatory properties.

CBD also consists of anti-anxiety properties. This also has an impact on treating acne-associated symptoms. It has been proved by several studies done over the years that CBD can treat stress and anxiety, which will furtherly improve the quality of life in those patients.

Noteworthy, even though CBD has been applied in clinical practice and have shown no side effects, further large scale trials comparing various existing agents including CBD are warranted in order to confirm the promising therapeutic potential of CBD as an anti-acne medication.
